Indoor Air Quality Training Resources for Healthcare Professionals

October is National Indoor Air Quality Awareness Month!

This National Indoor Air Quality Awareness Month, the Lung Association urges healthcare professionals to play a vital role in protecting their patients from the health impacts of indoor air pollution (IAP). A nationwide survey found that while healthcare professionals believe they should assess patients for IAP exposure, most are not satisfied with their knowledge of the health effects. The American Lung Association has developed free tools to help healthcare professionals identify, screen and treat patients for IAP exposure:
  • IAQ Resource Hub - toolkits with resources to address common indoor air pollutants
  • Indoor Air Quality Action Plan - plan to help patients take action towards improving the air in their home
  • Invisible Risks: The Health Impacts of Indoor Air Quality - a free, one-hour online training designed to help healthcare professionals identify, screen and treat patients at-risk for health impacts of IAP. CMEs/CEUs are available for physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, and respiratory therapists.

New Professional Spotlight

The American Lung Association has developed new Professional Spotlight courses designed to equip healthcare professionals with the skills to better support patients with asthma. The fourth course in this series, Beyond the Prescription: Improving Lung Health Outcomes for All, is now available!

This free, mini-byte course explores the impact of Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) on lung health and provides strategies to enhance care for individuals with asthma, COPD, or other lung conditions who may experience barriers to achieving better health outcomes.

Fight the Flu

While anyone can get the flu, individuals with asthma are at increased risk for flu complications. Flu infections can also trigger asthma attacks and worsen asthma symptoms. Getting a flu vaccine is the best form of protection. Schedule an appointment to help protect yourself and those around you this fall and winter virus season.
